5 Water Filter Myths Debunked

by Kiyara Thring

When it comes to water filters, there are a lot of myths and misconceptions out there, we understand that this can lead to confusion or may even turn you away from purchasing one of your own. Some people believe that water filters are unnecessary or don't work as advertised. Others think that they're too expensive or difficult to use, and the list goes on! In reality, however, these myths couldn't be further from the truth. Here are five common water filter myths debunked:

MYTH: YOU DON’T NEED A WATER FILTER IF YOU DRINK BOTTLED WATER

Fact: Bottled water is not necessarily cleaner or safer than tap water. In fact, bottled water may contain the same impurities and contaminants found in tap water that water filters are designed to remove. Additionally, bottled water is a significant contributor to plastic waste, which is harmful to the environment. At Phox we say, get rid of the constant bottled water purchase, do a bit of research on the tap water in your area and find the best water filter for you!

MYTH: ALL WATER FILTERS ARE THE SAME

Fact: Water filters come in many different types and styles, each designed to remove different types of contaminants. Some filters are designed to remove chlorine and other chemicals, while others target bacteria and viruses. At Phox we offer you two refill packs that are designed to filter out what we call nasties but each are designed to produce different results:

The Clean pack is designed specifically to combat the negative effects of hard water. It contains ION exchange resin which removes calcium by turning it into sodium. This makes the water softer and removes the limescale which creates that horrible film in your appliances**.**

Our Alkaline Pack, however, is designed to add minerals and electrolytes to your tap water and raise the pH level slightly**.**

To put it short, there are many different filters out there and it's important to choose a filter that's right for your specific needs!

MYTH: WATER FILTERS ARE EXPENSIVE

Fact: While some water filters can be expensive, there are many affordable options available. In fact, using a water filter can actually save you money in the long run by reducing the need for bottled water and extending the life of your appliances and plumbing.

MYTH: WATER FILTERS ARE DIFFICULT TO INSTALL AND MAINTAIN

Fact: Most water filters are easy to install and maintain. Many filters simply screw onto your faucet or fit into a pitcher, and require minimal maintenance beyond periodic filter replacements. If you have one of our filters then you can always follow our quick and simple set-up videos.

MYTH: BOLING WATER IS JUST AS EFFECTIVE AS USING A WATER FILTER

Fact: Boiling water can help kill bacteria and viruses, but it requires more time, energy, and money and may not be practical for everyday use.

MYTH: TAP WATER IS SAFE TO DRINK WITHOUT A FILTER

Fact: While tap water is generally safe to drink, it can still contain impurities like chlorine, copper and other harmful contaminants. Drinking water that contains these impurities can lead to health problems. In addition to this, if you’re living in the UK then you may suffer from the negative effects of hard water. A water filter can help combat these problems and remove impurities, providing you with cleaner, healthier drinking water.

MYTH: WATER FILTERS ARE ALL UNSUSTAINABLE

Fact: While some water filters can contribute to environmental waste, there are sustainable options available. For example, our refillable cartridges allow you to refill the cartridge with fresh filter media which can provide you with high-quality water without the need for disposable filter cartridges. In turn, we are actively trying to avoid the ****millions of plastic cartridges going to landfills each year. That's where our motivation to design the reusable filter cartridge came from.

At Phox, we understand the importance of providing clean, safe water for you and your family. That's why we offer high-quality water filters designed to meet your specific needs. Water filters are an essential tool for ensuring that your water is clean and safe to drink. By understanding the facts and debunking the myths, you can make an informed decision about whether or not this would be a good investment for you.
